A gunman opened fire at Eagle Pass’ Lucky Eagle Casino parking lot overnight, leaving 2 dead and at least 6 others injured, according to Maverick County officials. At time of publishing the gunman remains at-large.
In a Facebook post shared around 1AM Sunday morning, Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantù wrote, “It pains me deeply to see these horrific acts of violence occurring in our home.”

“[Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI] are working around-the-clock to ensure the safety of our community, and, above all, bring justice against the criminal individual responsible for this crime.” Judge Ramsey shared in his most recent statement at 6AM.
Mayor of Eagle Pass Aaron Valdez expressed a similar message about the gunman remaining on the loose, “I want to assure the people of Eagle Pass that our city is in close coordination with Tribal Police, EPPD … to support their investigation, maintain security, and ensure that those responsible for this violent act are found and brought to justice.”
The FBI, Texas DPS, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, and EPPD are all participating in the investigations lead by Kickapoo Tribe Police Department.
A motive or the events that may have incited the shooting remain unclear at this time.
Images and posts about the scene at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino began circulating online just after 1AM. One photo shows a damaged slot machine with a bullet hole.

Other posts shared sensitive videos and photos of bodies on the parking lot ground being tended to by EMS. In one video, loud pained wails are heard.
Judge Cantù asks for prayers for the families of the victims. “More than anything, I ask that we come together to pray for the families of the two victims whose lives were tragically lost in this heinous act.”
