Fire personnel responded to a structure fire at Ave. G and East 2nd Street Friday night at approximately 7:20 PM, successfully containing it. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The now-uninhabitable structure, a vacant home, is likely slated to be bulldozed to clear the area of safety risks.

The blaze occurred in close proximity to the local business La Cabanita. In the aftermath of the event, the owner of La Cabanita took to social media to express relief and gratitude, posting, “Thank God nobody got hurt! Just wanted to thank everyone that reached out to us out of concern for us and our business!! Also want to thank the Del Rio fire department for the great work they displayed yesterday afternoon! Great job guys City of Del Rio Government.”
The details of yesterday’s fire echo an incident that occurred in October 2025 in which a similarly vacant structure caught fire just 2 blocks away on Ave J and 1st St. Community members have speculated online that the fire may have been intentionally started by vagrants or those otherwise trespassing, which DRFD were known to have suspected of the previous incident. At this time, no official word has come regarding the cause of the fire.
