On November 23, 2025, at around 1:59 a.m., Del Rio Police Department officers were conducting extra patrols near the 200 block of Gibbs Street when they heard a disturbance coming from a nearby parking lot.

Officers responded quickly and found two men involved in a physical altercation. As officers attempted to separate the individuals, one of the men struck an officer and then resisted detention. A Taser drive-stun was used to bring the situation under control, and the suspect was identified as Diego Hernandez, 39.

The second male reported that he was leaving the establishment when Hernandez approached and assaulted him. The victim had visible injuries and reported pain.

Hernandez was transported to the police station for booking. During processing, officers located a crumpled piece of paper containing a yellow rock-like substance that later tested positive for cocaine.

Hernandez was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Assault on a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest or Detention, and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1/1-B < 1G.
