The City of Del Rio has announced a special meeting to pass resolutions appointing an Interim City Manager and Interim City Attorney on Wednesday March 4th. This follows the surprise removals of both Shawna Burkhart and Ana Markowski-Smith from their respective seats at a regular council meeting last week. Read that story here.

The special meeting’s agenda, published late Friday night, mentions hiring the services of a law firm as Interim City Attorney. The firm, Denton Navarro Rodriguez Bernal Santee and Zech, P.C., who call themselves “Rampage Law” on their website, specialize in providing counsel to governmental entities in Texas.
According to the agenda, a resolution appointing an interim city manager is also expected to be passed. A blank space where a name may appear suggests an individual’s identity has been redacted.
The City has received criticism from constituents online claiming a lack of transparency. 4 days since removing the councilwomen, no official details or comments related to the decisions have been released. The votes that removed two council people happened minutes apart after a closed-door executive session with no public discussion before the consequential motions.
