Selena Quintanilla never left the hearts of Del Rio, especially after her notorious performance at the local Civic Center in 1986. While decades have passed since the Queen of Tejano’s legacy began, a recent event at the Del Rio Council for the Arts proved that her connection to this city is more than just a memory—it is a vibrant, enduring piece of Tejano culture.
After conducting an internal review, the City of Del Rio found that it’s new water and sewer rate was “implemented incorrectly” and therefore is null and void.
Nearly 100 residents turned up to the Special City Council meeting about “Water and Sewer Rate Changes” on Friday November 7, 2025. A total of 14 citizen comments were delivered.
Attorney General Ken Paxton published a press release on October 2, 2025, calling out four Texas municipalities for violating the new S.B. 1851 law. The cities of La Marque, Odessa, Tom Bean, and Whitesboro recently ratified their tax rates, and Paxton halted the implementation of those tax rates. The City of Del Rio’s recent tax increase is currently safe because it met the key deadline under the new law.
The City Council voted to ratify the budget on September 29, 2025. In a split vote, with 3 votes against and 4 votes in favor, the majority ruled.
